Written by Nicole Christofilos on March 27, 2017

As we prepare to welcome the official start of spring, hopefully all the cold winter weather is now behind us and we can all start looking forward to more sunshine! Fashion brands have started to roll out their spring dresses and open-toed shoes, preparing for the welcomed embrace of a warm spring breeze. With the weather and fashion trends changing with the season, your makeup should too!

Springtime means more colour, sparkle, and shine in our lives and your makeup choice should reflect that. It’s time to say BUH-BYE to all the greys, blacks, and browns and HELLO to the pinks, purples and reds. Here is a list of ways you can transition your makeup from winter to spring:

  1. Foundation

It’s time to let your skin breathe! Put away your thick full coverage foundation and opt for a light-medium coverage options instead. Your skin will thank you for letting it soak up the warm rays! Don’t forget the sunscreen though! There are many great foundations options with SPF built in to keep you protected and looking youthful.

  1. Eye Shadow

Bid farewell to heavy smokey eyes (only if you want to… of course) and try using warmer tones to achieve your smouldering look! Browns, taupes and purples can achieve a beautiful smokey appearance without all the intensity of black. For a fresh daytime look, try using some more colour on your eyes, oranges, reds, pinks and even blues can brighten up your eyes and rival even the most beautiful blooming flowers.

  1. Lipstick

Glossy and colourful are in the forecast for spring makeup. Switch from your matte burgundies, deep plums and blacks to brighter satin pinks, warm toned nudes and Hollywood glam reds. For added shimmer or shine, apply a clear gloss to reflex the sun and keep your lips moisturized.

  1. Blush

Bring some warmth back to your cheeks and opt for a blush in the peach family. Peachy tones have the lightness of pink and the warmth of orange. This combination has the ability to add a soft colour to your overall look while still letting the natural heat give your cheeks the love they need.

  1. Highlight

Lastly, don’t forget to SHINE. Spring is the best time to show people your glowing skin as the sunrays come out and bounce off your cheekbones. Find your perfect shade and be a glow-getter!
