Hey You.. Take a Hike!
As the weather begins to get warmer the ‘six’ starts to come alive, and so do the surrounding areas of the city. Considering we only get a short portion of the year with the heat, let’s get outside this summer and take a hike. Here are a few fun and free trails and ravines to fill your days and keep your pockets just as full.
Trails and parks are a great way to stay active while enjoying all the beautiful landscapes there are in this city. Here are a few popular spots to trek through and take a nature selfie while you’re at it!
The Beltline and Central Ravines
This trail is located north east of the city’s downtown core but will give you an amazing view of the city skyline. It’s about 12 km and is mostly flat. While hiking, you will pass through Mount Pleasant Cemetery, which is completely stunning!
Forks of the Credit Provincial Park
If you’re looking to go slightly outside of the city but don’t want drive for hours, the Forks of the Credit is perfect. Located south of Hwy 124 and about 24 km northwest of Brampton, the short version of this trail runs 16.5 km. If you want more of a challenge, the “long version” extends about 20.0 km. The trail features the Credit River and has rolling terrain with some steep points; it’s a great workout with an even better view.
Silver creek Triple Loop
This park meets all the needs, it has a maintained trail, lush forests and flowing streams. What more could we want from a hiking trail?
Located in Halton Hills, it is still just a short drive from the city. The terrain is 9 km long and does include some rocky areas, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear. Make sure to bring a camera because the lookout points on this trail are super photo worthy.
These are only a few of our favourite trails in and around the GTA. Also, with the Canada 150 Parks pass, a lot of these are accessible for free. This summer, make sure you get out and take a hike!
