88th Annual Academy Awards – Everything You Need to Know!

Written by Ali Seca on March 1, 2016

Whether it was watching all the fabulous celebrities walk down the most renowned Red Carpet in Hollywood or listening to Chris Rock’s scathing yet amusing open monologue and everything between, the 88th Academy Awards did not disappoint. We’ve rounded up all the best moments from the evening!

Mad Max: Fury Road, cleaned house at the Oscars; for a moment we even questioned whether or not Leo would take home his much anticipated Academy Award. DiCaprio’s iconic win was a huge moment in Oscar history and #LeonardoDiCaprio took over twitter (yes, it did surpass Ellen’s group selfie from 2014)! Brie Larson also won for Best Actress for her moving role in Room. We’re so proud of all the winners and nominees and congratulate them for the hard work that was put into each film!

Another favourite Oscar highlight was Lady Gaga’s empowering performance of “Til It Happens to You.” Usually known for her eccentric outfits, this time, it was Gaga’s sheer talent as a performer/vocalist that had her noticed. Her performance of the Oscar nominated song, which touches on sexual assault left the audience in awe. CNN described her performance as “The most emotional moment of the Oscars” and we couldn’t agree more. The performance ended with sexual assault survivor’s joining Gaga on stage and exposing their forearms to reveal powerful phrases such as “Survivor,” “You Are Love,” and “Not Your Fault.” The song may not have won an Oscar, but it most definitely won our hearts.

…And lastly, what we’re all waiting for, the highlights from the Red Carpet. While there were many gorgeous dresses and stand out looks, it was the ladies in white that delighted. From Lady Gaga in a show-stopping pantsuit by Brandon Maxwell to Rooney Mara in an ornate Givenchy gown and Priyanka Chopra in angelic Zuhair Murad number, the LWD was a major Oscar trend!
